Historial perspectives of the International Society for Nitric Oxide and Cancer

The International Society for Nitric Oxide and Cancer (ISNOC) was founded in Siena (Italy) on October 4th 2018 as an international Society registered as a charity with headquarters in Seville (Spain), New York (USA), Los Angeles (USA) and Galway (Republic of Ireland). The ISNOC is focused to the study of the role of nitric oxide (NO) in cancer and its treatment based on NO-related agents. The ISNOC aims are to facilitate collaborations with various international investigators interested in the study of the impact of NO in physiopathology, as well as with newly developed potential agents that can deliver NO alone or in conjunction with other therapeutics needed to treat cancers that are resistant to conventional therapies. ISNOC will promote exchange among research groups, grant fellowships for research and assist in sponsoring ISNOC international meetings, as well as cooperate with other NO meetings of interest.

The first Council of ISNOC was constituted at 2018 for four years according to our Statutes:

– President: Jordi Muntané
– Vice president: Khosrow Kashfi
– Secretary: Sharon Glynn
– Treasurer: Ben Bonavida

Different members of ISNOC have been involved in the organization of the First International Conference on Nitric oxide and Cancer (Paris, France, 2007), Second International Workshop on Nitric oxide in Cancer Therapy (Dijon, France, 2009), Third International Workshop on Nitric Oxide in Cancer Therapy (Kingston, Canada, 2013), Fourth International Workshop on Nitric Oxide in Cancer (Seville, Spain, 2015), Fifth International workshop on Nitric Oxide and Cancer (Bologna, Italy, 2017), Sixth International Conference on Nitric oxide in Cancer and Beyond (New York , USA, 2019) and the Seventh International Workshop on Nitric Oxide and Cancer: Special Focus on the Tumour Miroenvironment (Galway, Ireland). The Eighth International Workshop on Nitric Oxide and Cancer will be held in Copenhagen (June 8-10, 2022)
In addition, different members of the ISNOC have been involved in the organization of a new series of related meetings focused on the translational applications of basic discoveries in the field of NO and therapeutics in preclinical models and clinical trials. Accordingly, the First International Conference on Therapeutic Application of Nitric Oxide in Cancer and Inflammatory Disorders was held in Siena, Italy in 2018 and the Second Conference “Therapeutic Application of NO in Cancer and Inflammatory Diseases” will be held in Seville, Spain, March 3-5, 2022).

The ISNOC is proud to join forces with other NO societies to complement research investigations and to collaborate on the fundamentals and translational applications of NO in cancer. Membership in ISNOC is open to all interested scientists and students. A website of the ISNOC has been constructed and will be accessible to all.
